Making Your Front Porch More Inviting

Paving Tips To Help Improve And Showcase Your Yard's Landscaping

The outside appearance of your home can improve or detract from your home's value, which includes its landscaping and paving areas. You need to consider both soft and hard-scaping when you improve your yard, especially when you want the two areas to mesh well and look great. Here are some tips you can consider and use in your yard's paving to make a great appearance and protect the health of your landscaping plants.

Transition With the Supportive Border Edging

In the front or side yard where your driveway is located, it likely abuts against nearby lawn or landscaping areas containing shrubbery, flowers, and trees. When your asphalt pavement has a rounded or jagged edge, the soft soil can cause the pavement to collapse and crack when vehicle weight presses down upon it.

For this reason, you need to pour your asphalt and support it with an edge that angles at 45 degrees. You can similarly provide support to its 90 degree edges with edging bricks or paving stones set into the soil. This provides a visual break between the soil and your pavement while it provides support to your asphalt's durability. This also provides a break to prevent the intrusion of roots into your asphalt, as roots can damage the paving surface.

Protect With Beneficial Sealants

Your asphalt begins to dry out and crack under the element's exposure, so it is recommended to patch and fill cracks, then apply an asphalt sealant every few years, depending on its needs and your climate. But did you know you can choose from other sealant colors other than black?

Black sealcoating is one of the most common sealcoating protectors, but you can also opt for green or blue sealant. This colored sealant coats and protects your asphalt, but the lighter color makes your yard cooler in the summer and promotes healthy vegetation in your yard with less of the sun's radiation absorbed into the pavement. Your vegetation will be exposed to less of an extreme heat island effect and will need less water as a result.

A black asphalt will absorb the sun's heat and continue to radiate in many hours after the sun has set. This makes your yard hot and uncomfortable, but also affects your landscaping. Talk to a local paving company about adding this type of eco-friendly asphalt sealant to protect your asphalt and the environment with your local landscaping.
